Dear Music Educators,
Recently, the All-State Junior High committee met to discuss concerns hosting the All-State rehearsals and performances during a global pandemic. Since our ultimate goal is to keep students safe and because liability is a significant concern, we will move forward with our decision to cancel the All-State Junior High Band and Orchestra rehearsal and performance for 2021. However, we are proceeding with the audition process to provide students with a valuable, musical, and educational experience. Students are encouraged to submit audition recordings online, as has happened in the past. Directors, please use this opportunity to talk to your students about the benefits of preparing and submitting an audition. Students selected as part of the 2021 All-State Junior High Band and Orchestra will receive a certificate and have their names published in the UMEA journal. This decision was not an easy one to make. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to providing your students with great opportunities for musical and educational growth.
